Studies on hair loss in black women was recently done at Boston University’s Slone Epidemiology Center. They surveyed nearly 5600 woman about their hair loss experience. Surprisingly almost half of the woman identified hair loss as a problem.
In the study they found that chronic use of the same styling practices caused the hair loss. Many of the women suffered a condition called CCCA, central centrifugal cicatrical alopecia. This is often an undiagnosed condition that caused inflammation, and destruction of the hair follicle leading to scarring and permanent loss.
Avoid overuse of styling practices that can damage the hair. Especially tight styles and to limit the use of chemicals and relaxers on the hair.
